As part of our February half term course programme, we were fortunate to host a master class with James Taylor. This proved extremely popular and sold out just a few days after launching. Each and every child who attended was fortunate enough to have individual contact with James throughout the course of the master class which was led by Andrew Gale, Yorkshire CCC Head Coach.
James (warmly referred to as Titch throughout the session) encouraged players to do the basics well, ensuring that everything stance related feels comfortable and works for the individual – commenting that technically he wasn’t the best but made it work for him.
He then went onto exploring different scoring options by using their feet against the spinners and varying sweep shots to score in awkward areas to manipulate the field. Something that James became famous for during his time in professional cricket.
The session was wrapped up with a Q & A with James where everyone had the chance to get a signature and photo with him. All attendees seemed to have a fantastic time. One attendee commented afterwards “ I watched James Taylor score a hundred against Australia a couple of years ago and never thought I would be getting coached by him. It was brilliant, he was so helpful and made it really fun!”

At the end of the session James gave away a pair of his signed gloves to the player of the session- these went to Yash Vagadia, well done Yash!
Thank you James Taylor and Andrew Gale!
